This coin is the first of the Megafauna series.
The Procoptodon is a giant, extinct marsupial that was part of a range of megafaunal creatures that inhabited Australia during the Pleistocene period.
The Procoptodon was essentially the largest kangaroo that ever existed.
It had clawed fingers and a single large toe on each foot.
Their face was shorter than the common kangaroo, and flat with forward pointing eyes.
The height of the Procoptodon has been estimated to exceed three metres.
They are thought to have existed in large numbers and behaved much like kangaroos today.
The obverse of the coin features the Ian-Rank Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II Australia 2013 1 Dollar". The reverse was designed by Peter Trusler and features a Procoptodon and its offspring in its pouch with a coloured background based on the Australian Outback.
It is surrounded by the words "Procoptodon 1 oz 999 Silver".
This coin comes in a grey clamshell case with a numbered certificate and has a very low mintage of only 6,500 worldwide.
