Established in 1535, the Mexican Mint is one of the oldest in the Americas, and the producer of one of the most distinguishable coins on the market, the Libertad. First released in 1989, the Libertad is highly favored due to its aesthetic appeal that combines vital elements of Mexico's history with 999 pure silver and an elegant antique, matte finish. Mexican Libertads can be difficult to come by, especially the 1/2 oz denominations, which rarely exceed 50,000 coins.

Illustrated on the reverse side is the Monumento a la Independencia, also known as El Angel, or the Angel of independence, located in the heart of Mexico City. In the coins field are Popocatepetl, and Iztaccihuatl, two crucial peaks in both Aztec mythologies and Mexico's history. The denomination, metal type and purity are also seen.

The reverse depicts Mexico's national emblem, a golden eagle, perched upon a cactus, devouring a rattlesnake, with "Estados Unidos Mexicanos" as the legend. Tasteful texturing is applied to the depictions, which enhance the beauty of the coin.
