Product details

Fortune flows where the Water Dragon goes.

Panlong is the auspicious coiled lóng (“dragon”) of Chinese mythology that has the power to summon rains and control the weather. Residing in the waters that flow past mountains, fields and even coasts, the Water Dragon on this affordable 99.99% pure gold coin brings with it possibilities of good fortune as it navigates changing tides and effortlessly treads through rolling waves—a felicitous harbinger of good luck and prosperity.

Powerful and auspicious, the Water Dragon symbolizes prosperity.

COIN HIGHLIGHTS

  • Fifth Chinese spiritual dragon. Chinese spiritual dragons are regarded as benevolent mythological creatures, and they are among our most popular annual themes. Inspired by Chinese mythology, this coin continues RCM's tradition of showcasing the art motifs, symbols and legends that are a cherished part of Chinese-Canadian culture.
  • Affordable gold. Struck on a 1/20 oz. (14.1 mm diameter) gold blank, this limited collectible is one of the most affordable ways to own 99.99% pure gold. It is slightly smaller than a dime, but the complexity of its engraved design will astound you!
  • Lucky 8. Traditionally, “8” is the luckiest number. To attract good luck and fortune, the auspicious number has been incorporated into the mintage (8,888) and the coin’s denomination ($8).
  • Red packaging. Your golden Spiritual Dragon coin comes packaged in a black clamshell with a red beauty box—red to attract good luck in 2025.
  • Rare and in high demand. Previous dragon coins all sold out quickly, and only 8,888 pure gold Water Dragon coins are available worldwide.
  • Includes serialized certificate. The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins.
  • No GST/HST.

PACKAGING

Your gold coin is presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded black clamshell and packaged in a red graphic beauty box, evoking the Chinese New Year "red envelope" tradition of bestowing a wish for luck and good fortune.

A GOLDEN DRAGON FOR 2025

The spiritual dragon on this 2025 coin is Panlong, the auspicious water dragon. Its likeness appears on the reverse of this precious keepsake crafted in 99.99% pure gold, which is both the metal element and colour of prosperity and good fortune.

DID YOU KNOW?

Said to resemble a crocodile, Panlong (“coiled dragon”) is a powerful rain deity and some believe it can also control time. Unlike other spiritual dragons that can ascend to the sky, this water dragon is restricted to rivers, lakes and oceans.

The reverse design by Canadian artists Christopher and Rosina Reid features a depiction of Panlong, the auspicious coiled dragon of Chinese mythology. A rain deity revered for its power and wisdom, the water-dwelling dragon is shown holding a pearl—a symbol of spiritual energy—while nestled in the rising waves, where the serpentine coil of the dragon’s body mirrors the rolling motion of the water’s surface. The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
