Description

The Loon belongs to all Canadians and has become a symbol of Canadian money around the globe. As Canadian athletes begin their journey to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, the Royal Canadian Mint is proud to release this coin as a permanent reminder, not only of everything they will accomplish, but their perseverance both as athletes and Canadians.

The obverse features the Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II D.G. Regina".

The reverse features a design by Canadian artist Emily S. Damstra that portrays the loon design of the emblematic Canadian 1 dollar coin or "loonie" as it is known in a unique way. The common loon is viewed from behind with its wings spread out in a territorial display, one of their most recognizable poses and impressive poses. The loon is viewed sitting on a rippling lake with a densely wooded lake shore opposite. Prominently featured in the upper left hand quadrant is a coloured Team Canada logo immortalizing and celebrating the athletes and accomplishments of Team Canada's Olympic team at the Olympic and Paralympic games in Sochi, 2014. Above and below are the words "Canada 2014 Dollar" and the artist's initials.

This reverse proof finish coin is made with 1 oz of 9999 pure silver. These coins make a great gift or addition to any Canadian coin or silver collection.

This coin comes with a serialized certificate in a maroon clamshell case and is limited to a mintage of only 15,000 worldwide.
