The Koala is the fifth design in the Australian Map Shaped Coin Series. This marsupial is one of the most recognizable symbols of Australia's wildlife. The Koala, with its grey fur and almost teddy bear-like appearance, is a truly unique part of life in Australia. The Koala lives in the trees and feeds only on a certain type of eucalyptus leaf.
The obverse features the Queen Elizabeth II effigy by Ian Rank-Broadley and the words "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2014 1 DOLLAR". The reverse depicts the struck design of a Koala carrying a baby joey against a coloured and picturesque bush and eucalyptus scenery. The inscription "Koala" appears above the Koala as well as the words "1 oz 999 Silver" with the year 2014 below it.
This unique map shaped coin is made with 999 pure silver and comes encapsulated with a serialized certificate in a grey clamshell case. Limited to a worldwide mintage of only 6,000 this memorable coin is a collector's favourite.
