Contained on the obverse, The White Horse of Hanover displays its power in a courbette position, with its hind legs firmly planted, with its front legs elevated. Three lions of England, Lion of Scotland, Fleur-de-lis of France, and Irish Harp, exemplify the unity of the British Royal monarchy and are visible in the first three quadrants. The fourth quadrant contains two further lions for England, one lion for Scotland, the White Horse of Hanover, and King Charlemagne's Holy Crown of the Holy Roman Empire, superimposed in the center. The typical guilloche pattern has been substituted with an elegant, blank coin field and encapsulated by the heraldic beast's title, with the weight, purity, and year of issue also seen.
