The design on the coin's obverse side was taken from the "Walking Liberty" design by Adolph A. Weinman, used initially on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin of the United States from 1916 to 1947. This beautiful design had been a public favourite and one of the most popular designs of any United States coinage of modern times, silver or otherwise. The design was revived for the Silver Eagle decades later. The obverse is inscribed with the year of minting or issuance, LIBERTY, and the phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST."

The new reverse design was introduced in 2021 and featured for the sixth consecutive time with the 2026 release. It displays a left-profile relief of a bald eagle mid-flight holding an oak branch in its talons.
