There is a working clock embedded in the centre of the coin, and the silver features hand applied antique finishing.
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was completed in 1865, written by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the nom de plume of Lewis Carroll. The story has been enormously influential in popular culture and literature, and has been in print continuously since 1865.
The obverse of the coin has the traditional effigy of Queen Elizabeth II in a pattern along with three roses surrounding the back of the clock.
The reverse features Alice, a number of playing cards and the Cheshire Cat who is, of course, sporting a huge grin. The face of the clock has the White Rabbit in the centre with "Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be late!" around the outside of the clock.
ABOUT THE PERTH MINT
The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as the British Royal Mint's 3rd branch in Australia. The historical Hay Street location handled gold refining until moving to a modern facility in April 1990.
