  • Obverse: Features an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
  • Reverse: Features an image of a Canadian goose mid flight

The Canada goose nests throughout Canada and follows various migration routes south, the longest beginning on the northern tundra and ending in the southern US and Mexico. Climate change is prompting more populations to overwinter in Canada, and some have begun nesting in western Greenland. The Canada goose was introduced to Britain in the 17th century, and was later brought to the Continent as a game bird. Its presence there is likely to evolve as their numbers continue to rise.

The Royal Mint brings Alex Colville’s artistry to life with the use of meticulous engraving and attention to detail. Designed in a similar likeness of the original, the modern rendition features a goose in flight over a blank coin field. The simplicity of the reverse side contributes to its elegance, as “Canada” serves as the legend, while the purity, weight, and a privy mark included for enhanced security are also included.

The obverse contains the contemporary effigy Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Susanna Blunt, with her majesties title as the legend, and the year of issue and face value, below.

ABOUT THE ROYAL CANADIAN MINT

The Royal Canadian Mint is known as one of the most reputable mints in the world. The Ottawa Branch of the Royal Mint opened in 1908 and was renamed The Royal Canadian Mint in 1931 when control was transferred to the Canadian government. The Royal Canadian Mint is renowned for producing some of the highest quality and purity of gold and silver bullion coins and bars in the world. Their high standards for excellence and quality allowed them to be the first refinery to manufacture 9999 fine gold bullion coins in 1982, as well as the first to reach 99999 fine gold purity in 1999.
