This coin's distinctive design and symbolic imagery make it a standout piece in any collection. Limited to a mintage of just 2,000 coins, it offers both aesthetic appeal and investment potential.
The coin’s shape arises from two powerful symbols. The ouroboros portrays a snake eating its own tail to represent the regenerative cycle of life, enlightenment and renewal. A horizontal eight-shaped symbol was first used mathematically in the 17th century to denote the concept of the endless and unlimited. A line that never ends, it is commonly known as the infinity symbol.
Portraying a snake consuming its tail, the antiqued piece is further enhanced with variegated tinting along the snake’s head and body. Also included in the design is The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
Accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, the coin is housed in a clear display case which comes in an illustrated shipper.
The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as the British Royal Mint’s 3rd branch in Australia. The historical Hay Street location handled gold refining until moving to a modern facility in April 1990. Ownership of the mint was transferred to the Government of Western Australia in July of 1970. Under an agreement with the Commonwealth Treasury, they were empowered to mint and market gold, silver, and platinum as Australian legal tender to investors and collectors worldwide. Today, they are amongst the elite world mints whose pure gold, silver, and platinum items are trusted without question. Items such as the Australian Nugget, Silver Coin Series (Kangaroo, Kookaburra, Koala, and Platypus to name a few), as well as the Australian Lunar Gold and Silver Coin Series are extensively sought after by bullion investors worldwide.
