The snowman has long been a favourite winter pastime in the snow laden north. The scene depicts, not only the snowman, but also skating, hot chocolate and newly fallen snow on a cabin in the woods. The obverse features the Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II D.G Regina" and the artist's initials.
The reverse centres on a unique coloured snowman hand made with Venetian glass by master glass makers Vio col vetro in Murano Italy. Each snowman is unique and depicts all the hallmarks of the iconic snowman, the carrot nose, the red buttons, black top hat and coal or button eyes and smile. To the left of the snowman is a coloured, decorated Christmas tree with garland, lights and multi-coloured ornaments. A pair of skates sits at the base of the tree, reminiscent of the joys of Christmas presents. A gently curving ice path with skating marks shows a happy past time at its simplest. Across the path a snow laden cabin and the gentle glow of firelight can be seen through it's lightly frosted window. At the bottom of the scene a partly snow-covered bench can be seen with a red cup of hot chocolate, one of the best things to warm up with after adventures in the cold.
